The legendary Zilog Z80 CPU is being discontinued after nearly 50 years (techspot.com)

My first home computer was Z80 based; a Sinclair ZX81

I think I still even have a book on Z80 assembly somewhere. Had a bright orange cover.

It is just an encapsulation, not the CPU, DIP40 IIRC.

It does seem to be much wider than that. The second page of the EOL notification[0] lists PEG, VEG & AEG variants - DIP40, PLCC & QFP respectively. They've made it clear as mud by putting different parts in different EOL notices (eg, the Z80 SIO[1]), but it seems to affect all Z80, Z180, support chips and Zbus peripherals - but not EZ80. (Also doesn't help that I can't find any trace of the Z80 ever existing on Littelfuse's site, so I can't get much from the horse's mouth.)
