This advice is leagues ahead, and almost appears to be opposed to the sentiment that I come across often, "You don't need to read entire books and you can just put a book down if you don't like it," which I cannot relate with at all. I want to read the entire book and mostly every book that I decide to read I am interested in to the point where my interest and want for the material that it provides don't ring against a "like/don't like" sort of spectrum.

This is just a nice phrase, although I don't entirely agree with it. But it is a real ribeye of a hot, declarative take.
