Are you signed into it though? I'm not and it nags me to sign in.

Which one? 8, 8.1 and 10 all have very different start menus.

That's not an 'ad' - there is a ton of OS-level functionality that's tied to your iCloud ID and account, you can ignore it if you want, but it's not an 'ad' if they want you to use it...

No, I don't use it in any form.

And they're all not the Win95-to-Win-7-era one. I need a working menu with nothing else, especially not tiles or ads.

Which Apple doesn't force one to use, thank God. Programs folder in the Dock, that's it (although, I admit, I'd prefer a list/menu...).
