What announcement? I missed it.

iOS 9.3 has a feature called "Night Shift": "Night Shift uses your iOS device’s clock and geolocation to determine when it’s sunset in your location. Then it automatically shifts the colors in your display to the warmer end of the spectrum, making it easier on your eyes. In the morning, it returns the display to its regular settings."

So they copied what f.lux did and released it as a homegrown feature?

Very close to it, yes (but also, this is something platforms often do).

Voted up because I had to get halfway through the comments (and even searched "apple f.lux" on Google but only turned up results from November) before finding the name "night shift" that I could then google and get the background.

Is there a better way for submitters to include a second, explanatory link for context when the linked article does not provide any?

iOS 9.3 includes a f.lux copy. http://www.apple.com/ios/preview/
