most of it is trash but there are some items you can order that are a bit more average quality. for instance iirc the quarter pounder patties are grilled in-house and when you order egg on a breakfast sandwich you can choose an option where they use real egg not just the processed stuff.

i’ve also noticed locations in Japan tend to taste a bit better. could be supply chain or something being different. not sure.

FWIW the R35 is used quite a lot in Japan still for things like time attack. Despite the DCT it is a rather capable car.

I think that's a major reason it IS a capable car. It shifts faster, plus all form of autos are better at holding boost between shifts.

I wasn't sure how much the DCT would be different, to be honest, when you're going fast.. you're in gear most of the time. :)

while i agree the only thing i’ll note here is the aforementioned GTR (R35) never came in manual.

It’s definitely quite a bit lighter than the Tesla at least.

it’s not uncommon for engineering orgs to have mentorship programs where mentor and mentee aren’t even on the same team.

now i’m not suggesting you turn this into a full-time thing but it wouldn’t necessarily be too unusual for you to spend an hour call with this person to help them along a bit.

if they seem like they’ve got a good head on their shoulders you could even turn it into a regular cadence even just for career advice or something. could be monthly, quarterly, etc.

for photography, I really enjoy Benjamin Beech from Japan. he does a lot of work for tourism associations there, for instance: https://www.beechphotography.tokyo/visit-mie

There’s also Adrien Sanguinetti. He’s also based in Japan but honestly I really just enjoy his street photography videos. He does an excellent job narrating while wearing an action cam how he composes his photos. What types of compositional elements he uses. etc. His youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@adriensanguinetti

I don’t think my street photography would’ve really taken as much form as it has if not for watching his videos.

this. i have a shiba inu. one of the most picky, stubborn breeds. he can be food-motivated but it depends on which treat i offer him. some have higher value to him than others. In addition, sometimes they won’t motivate him at all if there’s something else he deems worthy of his focus.

My workplace is mostly hiring LATAM and parts of Europe at this point. Occasionally NA but mostly for higher level engineering positions to backfill roles for people who left.

ironically most people can say the same about coming back and reading their own old code

I forget who said it “The worst programmer I’ve ever seen is me a year ago.”

I found it true for the first five years into my career, now it’s still true but with a longer time scale, which I suppose is progress

In important regards, you sometimes become a different person :-)

"No wonder that didn't work."

Not nearly the same thing but this reminds me of the Playstation game, Ape Escape. Real classic.

Ape Escape was great, and IIRC it was the first game that went all-in on the new DualShock controllers. You couldn’t even catch a monkey unless you nailed both sticks perfectly at the same time!

Definitely one of my favorite games on the original PlayStation and a great fit for the newly added capabilities of the DualShock controller

the homebrew scene is what got me into programming. i knew some of the great minds back then and really idolized what they were able to pull off.
